Music has yet to start playing for the 2011 holiday season, yet I am already wishing for it to be Christmas of 2012. Why? Oh let me tell you. Not only will one of my favourite actors, Leonardo DiCaprio be starring in two films being released in December of next year, but these two films just happen to be directed by two of my all time favourites.
The highly anticipated adaptation of The Great Gatsby directed by Baz Luhrmann has finally been given its release date for Christmas day of next year. Luhrmann is the visionary behind Moulin Rouge! and Romeo + Juliet, in which a young DiCaprio starred. Next, there is the freshly penned film by Quentin Tarantino titled, Django Unchained!. This marks the first professional encounter between Tarantino and DiCaprio, but it reunites the director with a regular, Samuel L. Jackson, and Oscar winner Christoph Waltz (Inglorious Bastards). Again, Tarantino steps into a genre that is unfamiliar (Western) but will no doubt make it his own and completely dismantle any preconceived notions we had about this genre. Either way, this man has been gifted with the Midas touch and even if it is a complete failure, I predict that it will earn a cult status.
All I can say is next Christmas is going to be the happiest day of the year for film geeks everywhere! How far in advance can I purchase tickets?
