The Godfather: Marlon Brando and Robert De Niro as Don Vito Corleone

Did you know, that Robert De Niro and Marlon Brando are the only actors to win an Academy Award for playing the same role? The role was Don Vito Corleone in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather, in which Brando won for playing the elderly mob boss, and De Niro won in The Godfather II playing the young, up and coming Italian mob leader. Coincidence perhaps that The Godfather is the only trilogy for which the first two films won the Best Picture category. I think the acting most likely had something to do with it.

Also, De Niro is one of five actors to win an oscar when they are primarily speaking a foreign language (he speaks Sicilian most of the film).

Interesting, oui ou non?
